Packing tips for DragCon NYC 2026
Pack your drag kit in performance order, not outfit order. Organize by transformation stage: shape, face, hair, garment, shoes. Duplicate anything that could snap mid-show (heel tips, lash glue, press-ons). Bring a full backup look if you have the bag space. Convention floors are harder on heels than stage floors, so carry a flat pair for walking between appearances. Steam every garment the night before. Wrinkles read from 20 feet away under stage lighting.
If you are carrying props, plan your day around weapon check. Most cons require peace bonding (zip ties on moving parts, orange caps on projectile-shaped props) before you can enter the floor. Get there early on the first day and bring your own zip ties. Pack a clear badge holder to clip the weapon check tag to your prop so staff can spot it fast. Large props need a breakdown plan or a friend who can guard them while you eat.
