What makes prepping for a ren faire different

Ren faires are outdoor, multi-hour events in variable weather. Your garb has to handle heat, dust, rain, and hours of walking on uneven ground. Comfort and layering beat costume accuracy every time.

• Garb layers are essential. Mornings at spring and fall faires are cold, but midday sun (especially at summer faires) can be brutal. Wear breathable fabrics and bring a removable layer.
• Heat is the biggest enemy at summer faires. Drink water constantly, wear a hat or hood, and skip the heavy leather until the temperature drops.
• Vendor shopping is half the experience. Set a budget before you go and bring cash. Many artisan booths do not take cards.
• Walking surfaces are grass, dirt, and gravel. Wear broken-in boots or shoes with real support. Sandals and costume slippers will hurt by noon.
