Use templateWhat to track in a fabric stash
At minimum, track the fabric name or type, remaining yardage, bolt width, fiber content, and color. Adding cost per yard and purchase source helps when you want to reorder. Photos of the actual fabric are more reliable than color names.
- Fabric type: cotton, linen, stretch knit, pleather, broadcloth, organza, etc.
- Yardage remaining and bolt width (45 or 60 inch matters for cutting layouts).
- Fiber content and care instructions (especially for cosplay that needs washing).
- Color swatch photo, because 'dusty rose' means something different to every store.
The duplicate bolt problem
Every sewist has bought fabric they already owned. It sits in a bin, unlabeled, and three months later you buy the same broadcloth because you forgot you had two yards in the closet. A searchable stash inventory eliminates that waste.
