Hall cosplay and masquerade need different prep

A costume that photographs well in the hall is not always one that survives a masquerade stage. Decide which one you are building for, because it changes your materials, your repair plan, and your schedule.

• Competing? Read the masquerade rules early. Many cons ban live steel, real flame, and certain prop lengths, and judging often rewards craftsmanship you can document.
• Hall cosplay rewards comfort and repairability. You will wear it for eight hours, so test-fit and break it in before the con.
• Bring a repair kit sized to your build: Barge or E6000 for foam, a spare wig, safety pins, and the exact paint you used for touch-ups.
• Photographers and meetups cluster by fandom. Check the group schedules so your build gets seen.
