Build guide
The wig spike is what this build lives or dies on. Not the orange jacket. Not the body paint. The forward spike at Jiji's hairline, standing up from the middle part. Every cosplay of this character I've seen that looked wrong had the same problem: the spike had collapsed, or the cosplayer bought a generic neon red wig that has nothing to do with Jiji's auburn-brick color.
Buy a Jiji-specific wig. Morojowig and Lemailwig both sell one with the right color and layered cut. Then wire it. Thread 20-gauge floral wire through the spike from the base up, pin the base inside the wig cap, bend the top to shape. Got2b Glued over it. Let it set overnight on a stand. This is not optional. Un-wired.
The body paint markings are the other thing people skip or do badly. UV-reactive body paint (neon white or yellow) is the move — not regular face paint, not stickers. Regular face paint smears under sweat in about two hours. Stickers look like stickers. UV body paint, set with two coats of skin-safe sealer spray, lasts a full day. At photo ops you pull out the UV flashlight pen and suddenly every shot looks like a movie still. I've seen this done right at Katsucon in February and the photos were genuinely striking.
The evil eye earrings: print them. The Thingiverse file (thing:7092349) is community-validated and free. Print in resin for clean edges. If you don't have printer access, commercial versions exist on Amazon for about $10-12. Worth it either way.
Orange jacket: buy it pre-made. The shade is a very specific burnt orange. Sewing from fabric risks getting a version that reads orange in person but looks wrong in photos against the actual character design. Miccostumes and CosplayFU both sell the correct set for $50-80. This is one of the rare cases where the pre-made is clearly the right call.
The whole build sits around $95-250 over four weeks. Practice the full body paint application once at home before con day so you know how long it takes and whether the sealer is doing its job. Nothing worse than showing up, starting the markings an hour before hall opens, and running out of sealer.
