Giyu Tomioka, the Water Hashira: the iconic half-and-half haori split between deep maroon and geometric diamond patchwork, over the Demon Slayer Corps uniform. The patchwork half uses English Paper Piecing with hundreds of small diamonds across multiple fabrics. This is the most technically demanding Demon Slayer build. Buy Bondaweb before you buy fabric. That's the one thing I'd go back and tell myself.
The patchwork half of this haori is English Paper Piecing: small diamond templates, each fabric piece backed with iron-on fusible, stitched together by hand over several evenings. It took me 31 hours across three weeks to complete a single patchwork panel. I was watching anime the entire time because there is nothing else to do with your hands during EPP.
Without the Bondaweb, linen frays the instant you cut it into 3-inch diamonds. With it, you get clean edges and the pieces sit flat when you're gluing them to the paper templates with a Sewline water-soluble stick. This is not a technique shortcut. It is a technique that actually works versus one that doesn't.
The color layout matters. Screen-accurate is orange (#C45D1A) alternating with rosewood red (#8A2A2A) with bottle-green diamonds (#1C4A2A) scattered through. If you get all three fabrics too similar in value, the tumbling-block effect collapses into a flat grid. Test your fabrics in natural light before cutting all 200+ diamonds.
One structural note that every Giyu build log I've read eventually discovers: add a shoulder seam on the patchwork side only. Traditional haori have no shoulder seam. For a solid-color haori, that's fine. For Giyu's diamond pattern, eliminating the shoulder seam means the diamonds invert across the shoulders and look wrong from behind. Add the seam. The solid maroon half stays seamless.
The uniform jacket uses CUT/SEW 027. Redraft the back as a single piece. Pre-wash the gabardine first: dark fabric bleeds when washed after a full con day, and you will discover this in the worst possible way if you skip it.
If 31 hours of hand-sewing sounds unreasonable, Spoonflower sells a Giyu patchwork print at roughly $45/yd. It is not screen-accurate. It looks fine from five feet away, which is where most people viewing your cosplay will be standing.

Half-and-half patchwork haori
Modifications for half-and-half patchwork haori: Use the Men's M or L for a full-length haori. Add a shoulder seam on the patchwork side only. Traditional haori have none, but for Giyu's diamond pattern you need it to prevent inversion across the shoulders. The solid half can remain seamless at shoulder. Extend hem to mid-thigh or slightly below per reference art.
Modifications for half-and-half patchwork haori: Use as a structural base for the haori silhouette. Remove front bands and French darts. The back yoke seam can be repurposed as the shoulder seam position on the patchwork side. Lengthen to mid-thigh for Giyu's proportions. Use only the solid half in solid maroon; construct the patchwork half separately via EPP and join at center back.
The DRCOS free pattern gives the cleanest haori silhouette for Demon Slayer. M7132 is a reasonable commercial alternative with a patchwork-oriented construction. For either base, the patchwork half is fully custom EPP work. No existing commercial pattern covers tumbling-block diamond cosplay construction.

Modifications for demon slayer corps gakuran jacket: Redraft back as a single piece (eliminate center back seam) for kanji vinyl placement. Add white bias tape collar binding with centered black topstitch per Coscraft's documented Giyu build. PPre-wash fabric before cutting. Dark gabardine bleeds when washed after con wear.
