Build guide
You can build this for under $60. I know because the hoodie is the only thing that costs more than $25, and even that is negotiable if you have something close to steel-blue already in your closet.
The wig is the purchase that actually matters. Ash-blond. Not golden-yellow. Not platinum. The natural hair color of a 21-year-old Japanese man who has not seen a salon recently. Most of the pre-made 'Shin Asakura' wigs on AliExpress ship in a color that photographs like a highlighter marker. Epic Cosplay carries an 'Apollo' style in Natural Blonde that's documented in community build threads as one of the closer matches. Order it, put it next to a screengrab of Shin under fluorescent lighting, and make the call. If it looks like a dandelion, return it. This is 80% of the build decision.
The hoodie. Steel-blue, not royal blue. The difference is obvious in photos and invisible to the color-blind, so I'll just say: if it looks bright, it's wrong. H&M and Uniqlo both carry basic athletic fits in the right muted range. DAZCOS makes a Shin-specific set for $35-45 with pants included and the shade is more accurate than most generic options.
White pants. Real talk: spray them with Scotchgard the day before. Keep a lint roller in your bag. Every outdoor con, every carpeted hotel lobby, every hour of sitting on the grass at an outdoor event is a threat to white pants. Light gray reads nearly identical at 10 feet of distance, which is where most people will see you.
Prop. Single playing card. Two fingers. That's Shin. That's the whole esper visual. Optional but it gets you recognized twice as fast at any con with a Sakamoto Days contingent.
Total, doing it right: $55-80. Two weeks is plenty. There's no sewing, no foam carving, nothing that requires more than good sourcing and an afternoon of wig styling.
