Build guide
The wig and the fabric color are the whole build. Everything else is just a school uniform.
I've seen more Megumi cosplays get killed by wrong fabric than wrong technique. The JJK school uniform is navy, a specific blue-heavy navy around #1A2B4A, and nearly every pre-made set and cheap bolt of 'dark blue' fabric photographs as pure black under convention lighting. This is not a small error. A black uniform reads as any anime school uniform. A navy uniform reads as Jujutsu High. Verify your fabric under fluorescent indoor light specifically, not sunlight, not the store's overhead yellow-orange fixtures. If you're buying pre-made, scroll every photo review looking for that color confirmation. One out of five sellers actually uses the right shade.
For the jacket: the standing collar is the technical challenge, not the overall garment. I used Cut/Sew pattern 027 (the gakuran pattern) as my base, it's $19.95 digital and includes the jacket and pants in unisex sizing built for broader shoulders and longer torsos. The structural interlining is already part of the pattern, which saves you from guessing at collar stiffness. The collar needs to stand 1.5 inches above the neckline seam without support. If it folds, you need more interfacing. I used two layers of heavyweight fusible on my first attempt and it still wanted to collapse at the tips. Three layers. Worth it.
The wig question people get wrong: they buy any medium-length black spiky wig and call it done. Megumi's silhouette is specific. The center chunk of hair angles forward and down. The side pieces angle back and out. This is not a random messy look, it's a deliberate pattern. Buy a heat-resistant black wig in the $45-55 range from Arda or Epic Cosplay. Style it on a wig head with T-pins holding each section while the gel dries. Got2b Glued applied with your fingers to individual chunks, shaped, left to tack, then heat-set with a flat iron on low. A heat gun scorches the fiber tips and warps the edges.
Con day. Do a two-hour full wear test at home before the event. The collar height, the trouser hem line hitting just above the boot top, the wig sitting correctly with the jacket collar, these all interact. The trouser hem specifically: too long and it bunches at the boot. Too short and the navy fabric gap is obvious between boot and cuff. Hem it standing in the boots you're actually wearing to the con, not in socks.
The ten shadows hand signs are how people recognize you. Practice the bird kuji-in position from episode 5 until it feels natural. Combined with the right expression (eyes slightly down and narrowed, head tilted forward about five degrees), you will get stopped for photos. Without it, even an accurate uniform gets read as 'random anime student' at any mid-size con.

Modifications for jujutsu high navy uniform jacket: Use as drafted for the jacket body and standing collar. The built-in interlining is the key feature. Add a second layer of heavyweight fusible interfacing to the collar specifically for a Megumi-accurate stand. Omit or adjust the faux pockets to suit the cleaner JJK uniform front panel.
The standing collar must be interfaced to stand independently. Two layers of heavyweight fusible minimum. Verify the navy fabric shade under indoor fluorescent lighting before cutting, most 'dark navy' bolts photograph darker than they are and can read as near-black at conventions.
Uniform trousers
Modifications for uniform trousers: The pants pattern uses a side-seam zipper rather than a front fly, which is easier to sew. Use remaining jacket fabric for a matched set. Hem length should break at the top of the boot, not over it.
If buying rather than sewing, navy school trousers from uniform retailers (not costume shops) often have better color and fabric quality than cosplay sets. Verify the shade matches your jacket under the same lighting.
