The read comes from three details done right: the dirty-blonde wig with dense bangs, the curved red horns attached so they don't tip over by noon, and yellow target-pattern circle lenses that make strangers do a double-take. Build guide
Don't buy the horns from the wig bundle. I know they're right there in the listing, clipped to the wig and ready to go. Skip them. Every single one I've seen or worn in person tilts forward by noon and starts the slow slide toward your nose.
The horns are the whole build. Everything else you're sourcing from Goodwill.
What actually works: EVA foam cut into the curved profile, heat-gunned to shape, painted with a couple coats of Plasti-Dip in matte red, then sealed. Embed 10mm neodymium magnets into the base with E6000 and let it cure fully, not just 20 minutes. Sew the matching magnets into the wig cap while the wig is on your head, mark the spots with safety pins first. When you pull the horns off at the end of the day the wig is completely intact. When you snap them on they hold through a crowd. I tested mine at Long Beach Anime Expo in January and they did not move.
The wig color fight is real. Orange is wrong. The listings that call their wig "Power" and ship you a Halloween-orange ponytail are wrong. The target is dirty golden-blonde, approximately #D4A847 on a color picker. I got mine from the EpicCosplay Athens wig, which is just slightly warmer than pure blonde without going saturated. Check any wig under a bright white light before ordering, not in your dim bedroom.
For the suit pieces: I found my blazer at the Goodwill on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena for $14. It was a men's large on me, a women's size or two up. That's right. Power's jacket is too big. A fitted blazer looks like Makima. The oversized silhouette is a character detail.
I left the top shirt button undone, set the tie about 5mm off-center, and popped the jacket collar slightly. My friend kept saying I needed to fix it. That's Power. She always looks like she just came from somewhere she probably shouldn't have been.
Total spend: $112. The circle lenses are the most expensive single item at $30, and they're worth every dollar. Plain yellow contacts read as generic anime. The target-pattern lenses with the dark outer ring are what make people stop. Bring contact solution in your bag. Practice inserting them two nights before the con, not the morning of.
Budget 3 weeks and you'll have everything in hand with time to test. The magnet work takes one afternoon. The wig trim takes 20 minutes. The suit pieces take however long it takes to find an oversized blazer at Goodwill, which in my experience is one trip if you're not picky about the exact shade of dark and two trips if you are.
